- 4 cups [1 L] whole fresh washed figs
- 1/3 cup [80 ml] sugar
- 1/3 cup [80 ml] water
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 ml] ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 ml] allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 ml] cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 ml] ground clove
- 1 lemon cut into tiny pieces

- In a large casserole, mix together figs, sugar water, ginger, allspice, cinnamon, ground clove and lemon pieces.
- Bring to boil, over medium heat, stirring often.
- Lower heat; cook for 5 minutes, until mixture resembles a brown, thick syrup.
- Cool.
- Keep in bowls, refrigerated or freeze.
