- 1 to 2 ounces [30 to 60 ml] bourbon or rye whiskey
- 2 teaspoons [10 ml] fine sugar or 2 sugar cubes
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 ml] bitters or Tabasco sauce
- Few drops Angostura bitters
- Ice cubes
- 1 teaspoon [5 ml] herbsaint or pernod
- 1 lemon peel

- In a cooled shaker, mix together bourbon or rye whiskey, fine sugar or sugar cubes, bitters or Tabasco sauce and Angostura bitters.
- Cool glass with ice cubes.
- Pour herbsaint or pernod; tilt glass on all sides to cover it with liquor.
- Empty glass.
- With a spoon, delicately mix ingredients in shaker.
- Do not shake.
- Through s sieve, pour mixture into the glass.
- Garnish with lemon peel.
