Fried Plantains
Comments: Plantain is a variety of bananas grown in the Tropics.
It comes from a tree called 'Adam's Fig Tree'; its texture resembles potatoe's texture.
Plantains are ready to be fried when their skin is black.

  • 3 large ripe plantains
  • Peanut oil
  • 1/2 cup [125 ml] sugar
  • 2 cups [500 ml] hot water
  • Peel plantains; cut in two and slice each half in 3 slices lengthwise, or slice into 1 1/2 inch [4 cm] thick slices.
  • Pour approximately 1/2 inch [1.3 cm] oil in a frypan; heat oil and brown some plantain slices on both sides.
  • Remove immediately to paper towels; repeat until all slices are browned.
  • Add oil if needed.
  • Put all slices back into frypan, sprinkle with sugar and pour hot water all over.
  • Tightly cover, lower heat and cook for 15 minutes, until water is all absorbed.
