- 4 cups [1 L] canned or freshly skinned tomato cubes
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] salt
- 2 teaspoons [10 g] sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] basil
- 1/8 teaspoon [0.5 mL] white pepper
- 1 cup [250 mL] coarse breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons [30 g] butter or margarine

- Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
- Mix together tomato cubes, salt, sugar, basil and white pepper.
- Pour into a greased oven-safe dish.
- Sprinkle all over with breadcrumbs; dot with tiny pieces butter or margarine.
- Bake into preheated oven, for 25 minutes.
- If top has not browned, broil under broiler for a few minutes.
- Serve.
