Baked Basil Tomatoes
  • 4 cups [1 L] canned or freshly skinned tomato cubes
  • 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] salt
  • 2 teaspoons [10 g] sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] basil
  • 1/8 teaspoon [0.5 mL] white pepper
  • 1 cup [250 mL] coarse breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons [30 g] butter or margarine
  • Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
  • Mix together tomato cubes, salt, sugar, basil and white pepper.
  • Pour into a greased oven-safe dish.
  • Sprinkle all over with breadcrumbs; dot with tiny pieces butter or margarine.
  • Bake into preheated oven, for 25 minutes.
  • If top has not browned, broil under broiler for a few minutes.
  • Serve.
