Golden Virginia Ham
Comments: Choose a 3 to 5 years old Virginia ham.
  • 1 [12 to 18-pound / 5.4 to 8.2-kg] ham
  • 1 cup [250 mL] apple vinegar
  • 1 cup [250 mL] brown sugar
  • Water
  • Well clean and rinse ham; leave ham to soak overnight, covered with water.
  • Drain then transfer ham into a casserole.
  • Pour in apple vinegar; sprinkle all over with brown sugar, then cover ham with fresh water.
  • Bring to a boil; simmer slowly for 5 to 6 hours, until bone is loose.
  • Remove from heat; leave ham into cooking water, until completely cooled down.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
  • Skin ham; transfer ham into a roasting pan.
  • Brown ham into preheated oven, until golden.
