Spicy Oven-Baked Slice of Ham
IngredientsPreparation
  • 1 [1-inch /2.5-cm] thick slice of ham
  • 1/4 cup [60 mL] brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup [190 mL] canned peach juice
  • 1/8 teaspoon [0.5 mL] allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon [0.5 mL] cinnamon
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 2 teaspoons [10 mL] cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] cold water
  • Preheat oven to 325°F [160°C].
  • Remove excess fat all around slice of ham; cut slits into remaining fat, every 2 inches [5 cm], to prevent curling while cooking.
  • Press brown sugar all over slice of ham; transfer slice into a shallow baking dish.
  • Into a small bowl, mix together a little of the peach juice and all of allspice, ginger and cinnamon, into a smooth, easy to spread paste.
  • Slowly stir in remaining peach juice; mix in cloves.
  • Pour all around slice of ham.
  • Bake into preheated oven for approximately 1 hour, coating ham with cooking juices every once in a while.
  • Transfer slice of ham onto a warm serving plate.
  • Dilute cornstarch into cold water; pour into cooking juices.
  • Stir until sauce is bubbling and thickened.
  • Serve sauce, along with slice of ham.
