Cheese Scones

A scone is a small bread, American-style biscuit tea cake.
Either serve scones with tomato slices, or spread scones with polyinsaturated margarine and then with a low-sodium mixture.
Servings: 6 or 7 scones

  • 1 3/4 cups [225 g] whole wheat pastry flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] polyinsaturated margarine
  • 2 ounces [50 g] grated Edam cheese
  • 5 to 7 tablespoons [75 to 105 mL] skimmed milk
  • Mix together flour and salt, cut in margarine, until crumbly.
  • Mix in grated cheese and milk.
  • Knead lightly; shape into a 1/2-inch [1.3-cm] thick circle.
  • Cut into scones, using a 3-inch [7.5-cm] pastry cutter.
  • Arrange scones all around a large enough plate.
  • Microwave for 3 to 4 minutes on 'MAXIMUM', turning plate once at half-time if necessary.
  • Leave to rest for 2 minutes, then leave to cool onto a wire rack.
  • Open-up scones; serve.
