Guaranteed Successful Pie Crusts
Servings: 4 pie shells

  • 4 cups [560 g] flour
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] salt
  • 1 pound [454 g] shortening
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] vinegar
  • 1 cup [250 mL] cold water
  • Mix together flour and salt; cut in shortening.
  • Mix together beaten egg, vinegar and cold water.
  • Using a fork, slowly mix water mixture into flour mixture.
  • Refrigerate for 6 hours.
  • Divide dough into 4 equal parts; roll onto a floured surface.
  • Line glass pie plates.
  • Microwave each pie shell on 'HIGH', for 4 to 5 minutes.
