- 1 1/2 cups [210 g] sifted flour
- 1/2 cup [100 g] sugar
- 1 3/4 teaspoons [8.75 mL] baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] salt
- 1/4 teaspoon [1 mL] allspice
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup [75 g] butter or margarine, very soft
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] milk
- 1 [11-ounce / 312.5-mL] can mandarin oranges, drained and sections
- Chopped dates and/or nuts, to taste [optional]
Topping
- 1/4 cup [60 g] melted butter or margarine
- 1/4 cup [60 g] sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] cinnamon

- Into a bowl, mix together sifted flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, salt and allspice.
- Beat egg; add very soft butter or margarine and then milk to beaten egg.
- Mix into dry ingredients.
- Stir in drained mandarin orange sections and, if desired, some chopped dates and/or nuts to mixture.
- Pour topping melted butter or margarine into a small bowl.
- Mix together sugar and cinnamon into a clean small bowl.
- Fill paper cupcake molds 1/2 full with dough.
- Microwave on 'HIGH' for approximately 3 minutes [test with a toothpick].
- Dip each hot muffin top into melted butter then into topping cinnamon/sugar mixture, and serve.
