  • 2 cups [400 g] sugar
  • 2 cups [500 mL] brown sugar
  • 1 [10 1/2-ounce / 300-mL] can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 2/3 ounces [75 mL] milk [1/4 can]
  • Into a saucepan, mix together all ingredients until smooth.
  • Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  • Cook over medium heat until a soft ball forms into a glass filled with cold water.
  • Do not mix while cooking.
  • Or, microwave on 'HIGH' for 5 minutes.
  • Open microwave oven door a few seconds; microwave for 2 minutes.
  • Open microwave oven door for a few seconds; microwave for 3 minutes more, watching carefully so that preparation does not spill, opening the door for a few seconds whenever necessary.
  • Transfer saucepan to a sink filled with enough cold water [up to at least 1/2 of saucepan]; mix until granules just start to form.
  • Pour into a mold or onto a marble slab.
  • Leave to cool completely before cutting.
