Cereal Marshmallow Bites [or stove]

Shape crafts with lightly buttered hands.
IngredientsPreparation
  • 1/4 cup [60 g] butter
  • 7 to 10 ounces [200 to 284 g] marshmallows [approximately 40] or
    5 cups [1.25 L] miniature marshmallows
  • 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] vanilla
  • 5 to 6 cups [1.25 to 1.5 L] rice krispies cereals [regular or specially colored]

Regular cooking
  • Melt together butter and marshmallows, over low heat.
  • Stir in vanilla; take away from heat.
  • Delicately mix in cereals.
  • Delicately spread [or see special 1, 2 or 3] into a buttered 13 x 9-inch [33 x 23-cm] pan.
  • Cool and cut into squares.
Microwave
  • Melt butter on 'HIGH' for 30 to 60 seconds, until completely melted; add and well coat marshmallows with butter.
  • Microwave on 'HIGH' for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes, stirring after 45 seconds.
  • Stir in vanilla.
  • Delicately mix in cereals.
  • Delicately spread [or see special 1, 2 or 3] into a buttered 13 x 9-inch [33 x 23-cm] pan.
  • Cut into squares.
Special 1
  • Firmly press cooked mixture, with a buttered spatula or wax paper, into a buttered 15 x 10 x 3/4-inch [40 x 25 x 2-cm] pan; cool.
  • Using a cookie cutter, cut mixture into 12 [3 1/4-inch / 8-cm] shapes.
  • If desired, decorate with icing, multicolored candy-coated chocolates and/or candies.
Special 2
  • Before adding cereals to cooked mixture, stir in peanut butter along with vanilla.
  • Firmly press mixture into a buttered pan; cool.
  • Cut into 24 [2-inch / 5-cm] squares.
Special 3
  • Firmly press cooked mixture into a 9-inch [2-L] square buttered pan; cool.
  • Cut into 12 [2 3/4 x 2-inch / 7 x 5-cm] rectangles.
  • Insert a wooden stick at one end of each rectangle.
  • If desired, decorate with icing, multicolored candy-coated chocolates and/or candies, drawing faces...

Party Cups
  • Divide warm cereal mixture into 16 buttered medium-size muffin tins.
  • Press mixture all around tins, to shape into small cups.
  • Cool; remove from pan.
  • Write names on flags made of coloured paper.
  • Attach flags to wooden picks and insert into the middle of each cup.
  • Fill cups with an assortment of candies or raisins and nuts or
    Fill cups with ice cream and serve, topped with flag names.
Fun Pops
  • Shape 1/2 cup [125 mL] cereal mixture into a ball; insert a wooden stick into each ball.
  • If desired, roll balls into:
  • coconut or
  • chopped nuts or
  • create face features or other designs with raisins, candies and frosting
Cut Outs
  • Press warm cereal mixture into a 1/4-inch [1-cm] thick layer, into a buttered shallow pan.
  • When slightly cooled, cut out shapes [hearts, stars, animals...], using cookie cutters.
  • Decorate with frosting, melted chocolate, coloured sugar and candies.
  • Thick icing can be used to 'glue' on decorations.
