  • 1 tablespoon [15 g] sugar
  • 3 teapoons [15 mL] cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 [12-ounce / 340-mL] jars sliced beets
  • 3/4 cup [190 mL] reserved liquid
  • Into a microwave-safe 5-cup [1.25 L] bowl, mix together sugar and cornstarch; salt and pepper.
  • Well drain beet slices, reserving 3/4 cup [190 mL] liquid; set aside.
  • Pour reserved liquid into cornstarch mixture; microwave on 'MAXIMUM' for 3 minutes, stirring every minute.
  • Add reserved beet slices; microwave on 'MAXIMUM' for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes.
