Glazed Turnips [microwave]

  • 1 pound [454 g] small really fresh turnips
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] water
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons [30 g] butter
  • 2 teaspoons [10 g] super fine sugar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] nutmeg
  • Arrange turnips into a shallow dish; pour in water and lemon juice.
  • Microwave on 'MAXIMUM' covered for 10 to 15 minutes [10 minutes for really small and fresh turnips], stirring often while cooking.
  • Drain turnips; set aside.
  • Into a small bowl, melt butter, covered on 'MAXIMUM' for 30 seconds.
  • Mix in sugar, salt, pepper and nutmeg.
  • Coat turnips with butter mixture.
  • Microwave, covered on 'MAXIMUM' for 2 minutes.
  • Drain.
