Marta's-Style Cabbage

  • 3 tablespoons [45 g] butter
  • 6 to 8 cups [1.5 to 2 L] shredded cabbage
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons [45 mL] wine or cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] celery, caraway or dill seeds
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 3 fresh, unpeeled tomatoes, diced
  • 2 tablespoons [30 g] sugar
  • Into an 8-cup [2-L] microwave-safe casserole, melt butter on 'HIGH' for 2 minutes.
  • Well mix in shredded cabbage, onion slices and wine or cider vinegar.
  • Mix in celery, caraway or dill seeds; salt and pepper.
  • Mix.
  • Top mixture with tomato dices.
  • Sprinkle tomatoes with sugar.
  • Cover casserole and microwave on 'HIGH' for 6 to 8 minutes.
  • Thoroughly mix, and serve.
