Brussels Sprouts Oriental-Style [microwave]

Excellent, served with hot crusty bread or toasted English muffins.
For an excellent, light meal, serve these Brussels sprouts with a baked potato and a piece of cheese.
  • 1 pound [454 g] Brussels sprouts
  • 1 tablespoon [15 g] butter
  • 6 green onions, finely minced
  • 3 tablespoons [45 mL] water
  • 2 teaspoons [10 mL] wine or cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon [5 g] sugar
  • Salt and pepper
  • Clean and trim Brussels sprouts as you would for plain Brussels sprouts recipe; set aside.
  • Into a microwave-safe dish, melt butter on 'HIGH' for 1 minute.
  • Stir in green onions; microwave on 'HIGH' for 1 minute.
  • Mix well; mix in prepared Brussels sprouts.
  • Stir in water.
  • Cover and microwave on 'HIGH' for 6 minutes.
  • Remove Brussels sprouts from cooking liquid, reserving both separately.
  • Stir wine or cider vinegar and sugar into cooking liquid; thoroughly mix.
  • Microwave on 'HIGH' for 4 minutes, or until almost all of the liquid has evaporated.
  • Salt and pepper Brussels sprouts, to taste.
  • Delicately stir in vinegar mixture; microwave on 'HIGH' for 1 minute and serve.
