- If you have a deep-enough microwave-safe grill dish, preheat it on 'HIGH' for 6 minutes.
- If not, use an 8-inch [20-cm] ceramic dish, preheated on 'HIGH' for 3 minutes [onion will be lighter, but still excellent].
- Arrange chopped onion into preheated dish, without removing dish from microwave-oven.
- Microwave on 'HIGH' for 1 minute.
- Remove dish from oven; stir lightly browned onion, scraping the bottom of the dish.
- Add mushroom slices.
- Thoroughly mix, still scraping the bottom of the dish.
- Pour in water; mix and then microwave on 'HIGH' for 3 minutes.
- Drain mushrooms, reserving cooking liquids.
- Into a clean microwave-safe dish, melt butter on 'HIGH' for 2 minutes.
- Stir in flour; then well mix in reserved mushroom cooking liquids.
- Stir in sour cream, salt and pepper.
- Just before serving, reheat mixture on 'HIGH' for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring once.
