Onion Braised Beef

Comments: Serve along with small green peas.
A bone-in piece of beef would take longer to cook.
  • 1 [3-pound / 1.4-kg] piece boneless braising beef
  • 1 whole pack dry onion soup mix, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] thyme
  • 1/8 teaspoon [0.5 mL] garlic powder [optional]
  • Pinch of sugar
  • Fresh or drained canned mushrooms browned into melted butter, to taste
  • 3 carrots, into pieces
  • 6 small potatoes, peeled
  • 3/4 cup [190 mL] red wine or apple juice
  • Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
  • Arrange beef into a roasting pan, already lined with a large sheet al foil; well seal ends.
  • Sprinkle beef with onion soup mix, thyme, garlic powder if using, and sugar.
  • Evenly arrange mushrooms, carrot pieces and peeled potatoes all around beef.
  • Pour red wine or apple juice all over beef and vegetables; well seal into al foil.
  • Transfer beef into preheated oven for approximately 2 1/2 hours.
