- 1 [3-pound / 1.4-kg] piece boneless braising beef
- 1 whole pack dry onion soup mix, or to taste
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] thyme
- 1/8 teaspoon [0.5 mL] garlic powder [optional]
- Pinch of sugar
- Fresh or drained canned mushrooms browned into melted butter, to taste
- 3 carrots, into pieces
- 6 small potatoes, peeled
- 3/4 cup [190 mL] red wine or apple juice

- Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
- Arrange beef into a roasting pan, already lined with a large sheet al foil; well seal ends.
- Sprinkle beef with onion soup mix, thyme, garlic powder if using, and sugar.
- Evenly arrange mushrooms, carrot pieces and peeled potatoes all around beef.
- Pour red wine or apple juice all over beef and vegetables; well seal into al foil.
- Transfer beef into preheated oven for approximately 2 1/2 hours.
