Aunt Anne-Marie's Steamed Pudding

  • Butter [piece as large as an egg]
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup [100 g] sugar
  • 1 cup [140 g] flour
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] milk
  • Beat together butter, beaten egg and sugar.
  • Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Alternately with milk, mix dry ingredients into first mixture.
  • Pour dough into the top part of a double-boiler; cover.
  • Steam pudding over slowly simmering yet not boiling water, for 2 1/4 hours.
