- Butter [piece as large as an egg]
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup [100 g] sugar
- 1 cup [140 g] flour
- 2 tablespoons [30 mL] baking powder
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] milk

- Beat together butter, beaten egg and sugar.
- Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
- Alternately with milk, mix dry ingredients into first mixture.
- Pour dough into the top part of a double-boiler; cover.
- Steam pudding over slowly simmering yet not boiling water, for 2 1/4 hours.
