- 1 cup [250 mL] stoned dates
- 1 cup [250 mL] brown sugar
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] water
- 1/2 cup [115 g] butter, creamed
- 1 cup [250 mL] rolled oats
- 1 cup [140 g] flour
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] baking soda
- 1 pinch salt

- Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
- Boil together dates, 1/2 cup [125 mL] of brown sugar and water until just starting to thicken; remove from heat.
- Into a bowl, well mix together creamed butter, rolled oats, flour, baking soda and salt.
- Press half of mixture over the bottom of a square 8-inch [20-cm] cake pan.
- Evenly spread date mixture over rolled oats mixture.
- Sprinkle date mixture all over with remaining rolled oats mixture.
- Brown into preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes, until golden.
