- 1/2 cup [115 g] butter or margarine
- 1 cup [200 g] sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 cup [140 g] flour
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] baking powder
Garnishing
- 1 cup [250 mL] chopped nuts
- 1 cup [250 mL] stoned chopped dates
- 2 egg whites
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] vanilla
- 1 cup [250 mL] brown sugar

- Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
- Cream butter or margarine; mix in sugar and egg yolks.
- Sift together flour and baking powder; well mix into first mixture.
- Evenly pour dough into a greased 8-inch [20-cm] square cake pan.
- Into a bowl, well mix together garnishing chopped nuts and dates; evenly sprinkle over dough.
- Beat egg whites until foamy; beat in vanilla and brown sugar, until stiff
- Evenly spread mixture over chopped nuts and dates mixture.
- Bake into preheated oven for approximately 30 to 35 minutes, until golden brown.
- Leave to cool completely, before cutting into squares.
