Beef Stew

  • 2 pounds [900 g] beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch [2.5-cm] cubes
  • 1/4 cup [35 g] flour
  • 1/2 teaspon [2.5 mL] pepper
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3 peeled potatoes, diced
  • 1 stalk celery, sliced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons [7.5 mL] salt
  • 1 1/2 cups [375 mL] beef broth
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] paprika
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons [10 mL] liquid seasoning [optional]
  • Arrange beef cubes into slow cooker.
  • Mix together flour, salt and pepper; sprinkle over meat cubes.
  • Stir to coat meat cubes with seasoned flour.
  • Add Worcesterchire sauce, bay leaf, potato dices, celery slices, salt, beef broth, minced garlic, paprika, chopped onions and, if desired, liquid seasoning; stir to mix well.
  • Cover and cook on 'LOW' for 10 to 12 hours, or on 'HIGH' for 4 to 6 hours.
  • Stir stew thoroughly before serving.
