Spaghetti Sauce
Comments: If you like your sauce sweeter, you could add 1/4 to 1/2 cup [60 to 100 g] sugar to this sauce.
  • 4 tablespoons [60 mL] cooking oil
  • 1 pound [454 g] ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 [15 1/2-ounce / 440 mL] can tomato sauce
  • 1 [29-ounce / 824-mL] can tomato puree
  • 1 [6-ounce / 170-mL] can tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 cups [375 mL] water
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] red pepper, optional
  • 2 pounds [900 g] Italian or country-style sausages, into pieces
  • Heat 2 tablespoons [30 mL] of the cooking oil into a frying pan.
  • Brown ground beef into hot oil until almost browned.
  • Add chopped onion and continue browning until onion is tender.
  • Pour meat and onion into 3 1/2-quart [3,5-L] crock pot.
  • Add tomato puree, tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, salt, pepper, oregano and, if desired, red pepper.
  • Heat remaining 2 tablespoons [30 mL] of the cooking oil into frying pan.
  • Brown sausage pieces into hot oil.
  • Add sausages to sauce in crock pot.
  • Cook on low, for 12 hours.
