Shredded Roast Beef for Sandwiches [or oven]

  • 1 [4-pound / 1.8-kg] beef roast
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] vinegar
  • 1 small bottle ketchup
  • 2 cups [500 mL] chopped celery
  • 3 onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] salt
  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon [15 mL] chili powder
  • 2 cups [500 mL] water
  • If needed, preheat oven to 275 to 325°F [135 to 160°C].
  • Arrange beef roast into slow cooker or into a deep casserole.
  • Into a bowl, mix together vinegar, ketchup, chopped celery and onions, salt, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder and water; pour over roast.
  • Cook into slow cooker or bake into preheated oven, for 5 hours.
  • Remove meat from casserole or slow cooker.
  • Break apart or shred cooked beef.
