Sweet and Sour Beef and Vegetables
Comments: Serve along with small boiled pasta noodles such as shells, sprinkled with freshly chopped or dried chives.

  • 2 tablespoons [30 mL] vegetable oil
  • 2 pounds [1 kg] round or chuck steak, into 1-inch [2.5-cm] cubes
  • 2 [8-ounce / 250-mL] each cans tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons [10 mL] chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons [10 mL] paprika
  • 1/4 cup [60 g] sugar
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] vinegar
  • 1/2 cup [125 mL] molasses
  • 2 cups [500 mL] 1/4-inch [6-mm] thick carrot slices
  • 2 cups [500 mL] peeled tiny white onions
  • 1 large sweet green pepper, membranes and seeds removed, into 1-inch [2.5-cm] cubes
  • Brown steak cubes into hot vegetable oil.
  • Transfer steak cubes into a slow cooker.
  • Well mix in tomato sauce, chili powder, paprika, sugar, salt, vinegar, molasses, carrot slices, tiny white onions and sweet green pepper cubes.
  • Cook for 6 to 7 hours on 'LOW', or for 4 hours on 'HIGH'.
