Baby Back Ribs

  • 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 pounds [2 to 2.5 kg] pork back ribs
  • 1 [16-ounce / 500-mL] bottle barbecue sauce for ribs and chicken
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Water
  • Preheat oven broiler.
  • Rub ribs on both sides with salt and pepper.
  • Lay onto a wire rack onto a baking sheet.
  • Grill, approximately 5 inches [12.7 cm] from heat source for approximately 5 minutes per side.
  • Meanwhile, arrange onion slices side-by-side all over the bottom of a large slow cooker.
  • Cover onion slices with approximately 1 inch [2.5 cm] water, not more.
  • Reserving approximately 1/3rd of sauce, generously coat grilled ribs on both sides with barbecue sauce.
  • Lay ribs on top of onion slices in slow cooker, cutting racks if needed to fit in.
  • Cover and cook on 'LOW' for 5 hours.
  • Evenly pour in remaining barbecue sauce.
  • Cook for 1 hour more.
