- 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 pounds [2 to 2.5 kg] pork back ribs
- 1 [16-ounce / 500-mL] bottle barbecue sauce for ribs and chicken
- 1 large onion, sliced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Water

- Preheat oven broiler.
- Rub ribs on both sides with salt and pepper.
- Lay onto a wire rack onto a baking sheet.
- Grill, approximately 5 inches [12.7 cm] from heat source for approximately 5 minutes per side.
- Meanwhile, arrange onion slices side-by-side all over the bottom of a large slow cooker.
- Cover onion slices with approximately 1 inch [2.5 cm] water, not more.
- Reserving approximately 1/3rd of sauce, generously coat grilled ribs on both sides with barbecue sauce.
- Lay ribs on top of onion slices in slow cooker, cutting racks if needed to fit in.
- Cover and cook on 'LOW' for 5 hours.
- Evenly pour in remaining barbecue sauce.
- Cook for 1 hour more.
