Golfers' Stew
Comments: Cooked into a slow cooker, a stew will have a great taste even if you skip browning the meat and the onions.
Preparation time : 10 minutes
Cooking time : 1, or 6 hours
Ideal size slow cooker : 16-cup [4-L]

  • 1 pound [454 g] stewing beef cubes
  • 1 [12-ounce / 340-mL] jar beef or beef and mushroom sauce
  • 6 medium potatoes, cut into 1/2-inch [1.3-cm] each dices
  • 6 carrots, cut into thick slices
  • 3 stalks celery, cut into thick slices [optional]
  • 2 or 3 onions, cut into wedges
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] salt [optional]
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon [1 to 2.5 mL] pepper [optional]
  • Arrange beef cubes over the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • Pour in beef or beef and mushroom sauce.
  • Evenly top with potato dices, carrot slices, celery slices if desired, and then with onion wedges.
  • If desired, salt and pepper mixture.
  • Delicately mix together all the ingredients.
  • Cover and cook on 'HIGH' for 1 hour, or on 'LOW' for 6 hours.
