- 1 pound [454 g] ground beef
- 3 large onions, sliced
- 1 large sweet green pepper, membranes and seeds removed, chopped
- 1 [16-ounce / 454-mL] can tomatoes
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] raw white rice
- 2 teaspoons [10 mL] salt
- 1 to 2 teaspoons [5 to 10 mL] chili powder
- 1/8 teaspoon [0.5 mL] pepper

- Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
- Into a frypan, stirring, brown together ground beef, onion slices and chopped sweet green pepper to soften vegetables.
- Drain off fat.
- Stir in tomatoes, rice, salt, chili powder and pepper; heat until hot.
- Pour mixture into a greased 8-cup [2-L] oven-safe casserole.
- Cover and bake into preheated oven, for 1 hour.
