- 1 1/2 cups [210 g] all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup [115 g] shortening
- 3 tablespoons [45 mL] cold water

- Preheat oven to 425°F [220°C].
- Sift flour; add salt and sift flour once more.
- Using a pastry cutter, cut in shortening until mixture is of the size of peas.
- Stir in 1 tablespoon [15 mL] cold water at a time, stirring until mixture shapes into a ball.
- Pressing with your fingers, line bottom and sides of a 9-inch [23-cm] pie plate with dough.
- Bake pie chell into preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, until just golden.
- Remove from oven and immediately prick dough with a fork.
- Leave to cool completely.
