- 2 cups [280 g] flour
- 3 teaspoons [15 mL] baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] salt
- 2 tablespoons [30 g] sugar
- 4 tablespoons [60 g] golden butter flavored shortening
- 2/3 to 3/4 cup [160 to 190 mL] whole milk
- Melted butter
- 3 cups [750 mL] grossly chopped peeled apples
- 1/2 cup [115 g] sugar
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] cinnamon or apple pie spices
- Any white frosting, to taste
- Chopped nuts, to taste
- Maraschino cherries [to decorate]

- Preheat oven to 425°F [220°C].
- Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and 2 tablespoons [30 g] sugar.
- Cut golden shortening into flour mixture; stir in enough milk to get a light dough.
- Lightly knead dough onto a floured surface.
- Roll dough into a 1/4-inch [6-mm] thick rectangle.
- Using a pastry brush, evenly brush dough with a little melted butter.
- Evenly cover dough with chopped apples.
- Sprinkle apples with remaining 1/2 cup [115 g] sugar, then with cinnamon or apple pie spices.
- Roll dough, jelly roll fashion way.
- Transfer roll onto a greased baking sheet shaping roll into half a circle.
- Bake into preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Frost still hot strudel with white frosting.
- Sprinkle frosting with chopped nuts.
- Decorate strudel with Maraschino cherries.
