  • 1 cup [250 mL] raisins
  • 2 cups [500 mL] water
  • 12 tablets saccharin
  • 1 cup [140 g] flour
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] ground clove
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] baking soda
  • 1/2 cup [115 g] shortening
  • 1 teaspoon [5 mL] vanilla
  • 1 cup [250 mL] fast cooking rolled oats
  • Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
  • Boil together raisins and water for 15 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir saccharin into mixture until completely dissolved.
  • Sift together flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground clove and baking soda.
  • Cut shortening into flour mixture.
  • Mix in raisins mixture, vanilla and rolled oats.
  • Arrange spoonfuls of dough apart onto a cookie sheet; flatten dough.
  • Bake cookies into preheated oven, for 15 minutes.
