- 1 cup [250 mL] raisins
- 2 cups [500 mL] water
- 12 tablets saccharin
- 1 cup [140 g] flour
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon [2.5 mL] ground clove
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] baking soda
- 1/2 cup [115 g] shortening
- 1 teaspoon [5 mL] vanilla
- 1 cup [250 mL] fast cooking rolled oats

- Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
- Boil together raisins and water for 15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir saccharin into mixture until completely dissolved.
- Sift together flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground clove and baking soda.
- Cut shortening into flour mixture.
- Mix in raisins mixture, vanilla and rolled oats.
- Arrange spoonfuls of dough apart onto a cookie sheet; flatten dough.
- Bake cookies into preheated oven, for 15 minutes.
