- 1 cup [250 mL] chopped dates
- 1/4 cup [60 mL] sugar substitute
- 1/3 cup [80 mL] oil
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] orange juice
- 1 egg
- 1 cup [140 g] all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons [7.5 mL] baking powder
- 1/2 cup [125 mL] chopped pecans
- 1 tablespoon [15 mL] grated orange rind

- Into a casserole, mix together chopped dates, sugar substitute, oil and orange juice.
- Cook together for 5 minutes, to soften dates; transfer into a bowl and leave to cool.
- Preheat oven to 350°F [180°C].
- Mix in egg.
- Mix together flour, baking powder, choped pecans and grated orange rind into a clean bowl.
- Mix into first mixture.
- Pour into an 8-inch [20-cm] square cake pan.
- Bake into preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Leave to cool completely, before cutting into bars.
